Why I've Chosen to Focus on Three Types of Photography

If you've ever run a business, you'll know that advice comes from everywhere.

Some people tell you to niche right down and only offer one thing.

Others tell you your style matters more than what you photograph.

Then there are the people who say you should showcase everything you can do.

Honestly? It's a little overwhelming.

I've had all of that advice over the past few months, and while I can see the logic behind each perspective, I've realised there's one approach that feels right for me.

I'm choosing to focus on three types of photography.

Not because they're the only things I'll ever photograph, but because they're the areas where I know I can bring the most value to small businesses.

Brand Photography

A brand is so much more than a logo.

It's the people behind the business, the products you create, the space you work in, the little details that make you different, and the personality that connects you with your customers.

That's exactly what brand photography is about.

Whether it's founder portraits, team photos, product photography, workspace images or behind-the-scenes moments, we'll create a collection of photographs that genuinely represent your business.

These images can then be used across your website, social media, marketing materials and anywhere else your brand shows up.

Event Photography

I've loved event photography ever since I photographed Clerkenwell Design Week as part of my marketing role.

There's something really rewarding about capturing the atmosphere, the conversations, the details and the energy of an event.

The best part is that event photography doesn't stop being useful once the event is over.

Those images become valuable marketing content that can be shared for months afterwards. Whether you're promoting future events, celebrating your community or simply showing people what your business is all about, a strong gallery of event images keeps working long after everyone has gone home.

Content Photography

If you're a small business, you probably know the feeling of opening Instagram and realising you have nothing new to post.

That's where content photography comes in.

I'm offering monthly or quarterly content sessions that build up a library of fresh, authentic imagery for your business.

That might include products, your workspace, your team, behind-the-scenes moments or anything else that helps tell your story.

Instead of constantly scrambling for content, you'll have a bank of professional images ready whenever you need them.

It's All Built Around Marketing

Photography has always been about more than creating beautiful images for me.

My background is in marketing, so I'm always thinking about how your photographs will actually be used.

Will they help someone understand your business more quickly?

Will they make your website feel more welcoming?

Will they give you months of social media content instead of one post?

Will they help build trust with potential customers?

Every shoot is planned with those questions in mind.

My goal isn't just to hand over a gallery of lovely photos. It's to create images that support your business and help it grow.

So yes, I'm focusing on three areas: brand photography, event photography and content photography.

But I'm still someone who loves trying new things, so if an exciting project lands in my inbox that's a little different, I'll probably say yes.

After all, experimenting is part of what makes photography so much fun.
